Ootoya Puts Six Second-Years on the Menu
Ootoya is a Japanese restaurant chain built around teishoku, the set-meal format where a grilled or fried main arrives with rice, miso soup and a couple of small sides. It ran its first Haikyu!! campaign last year. The second, detailed in a September 28, 2026 report from Japanese anime news site Anime Anime, runs from October 8 to November 23, 2026. The draw is the lineup: Karasuno's Yu Nishinoya, Nekoma's Kenma Kozume, Date Tech's Kenji Futakuchi, Fukurodani's Keiji Akaashi, Inarizaki's Atsumu Miya and Kamomedai's Korai Hoshiumi. Six players, six schools, all of them second-years.
That is where the campaign name comes from. The Japanese title, 次代をつくる、受け継ぐ勝負飯!!, is about building the next generation and inheriting what came before. 勝負飯 (shōbumeshi) is the meal you eat before a match you cannot afford to lose.
Anime Anime's headline singles out Kenma attempting katsuramuki, the knife technique that shaves a daikon into one long, paper-thin sheet. The article never returns to it, so the joke presumably lives in the collaboration's newly drawn illustrations rather than on the menu. Ootoya is also releasing a promotional video with Nishinoya voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto (Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia).
Haruichi Furudate's volleyball manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2012 for eight and a half years and has passed 75 million copies in circulation. The TV anime started in 2014, and the 2024 film Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle adapted the Karasuno versus Nekoma match the series had spent a decade setting up.
The Set Meals Come in Two Waves
Wave one runs October 8 to 28 at ¥1,880 each: Karasuno's "First Step to Victory: Gear Meal," Nekoma's "Connect with Flexibility: Balance Meal" and Kamomedai's "Consistency Becomes Habit: Routine Meal." Each order comes with one randomly chosen holographic postcard using the newly drawn art, six designs in total.
Wave two runs October 29 to November 23 at the same ¥1,880: Date Tech's "Build the Iron Wall: Guard Meal," Fukurodani's "Adjustment Is Key: Tuning Meal" and Inarizaki's "Sharpen Your Focus: Sync Meal." Those come with a random sticker instead, again six designs.
The naming tracks each school's identity on court. Date Tech gets the iron wall it blocks with, Nekoma gets the connecting play, and Inarizaki gets the synchronized attack the Miya twins run. The ¥680 "Captains' Treat" dessert plate is available for the whole run, and comes with a randomly chosen captain-design sticker.
Acrylic Stands, Can Badges and a Rice Pouch
The collaboration goods all use the newly drawn illustrations: acrylic stands (six designs, ¥1,650 each), trading holographic can badges (six designs, ¥550 each), trading two-piece acrylic charms pairing a ladle with a bowl of miso soup (six designs, ¥880 each), a clear file folder at ¥660, and a rice pouch with an acrylic charm at ¥2,970. Everything is limited quantity. Online sales run from noon on October 8 to 10 a.m. on November 24.
Some restaurants get dressed up. The Aeon Mall Sendai Kamisugi store gets character panels of Nishinoya, Kenma and Futakuchi plus wall decorations, while the Namba SkyO store in Osaka gets window art featuring all six. Ootoya's own press release lists panels at six further stores, among them Sapporo, Ikebukuro, Omiya and Himeji.
Two extras round it out. Ootoya's official X account is running a follow-and-repost giveaway for ten sets of six BIG acrylic stands. The chain's app is distributing a Haikyu!!-designed coupon for a free rice upsize, valid through November according to the press release.
Looking Ahead
The campaign opens October 8, 2026 and closes November 23, 2026, with the online shop staying up one extra day. Everything announced is in Japan: the participating restaurants, the panel displays and the web store. Ootoya does operate abroad, with roughly 140 restaurants across eight countries and regions as of an August 2026 Japan Times interview, but no overseas leg of the collaboration has been announced.
The TV series streams on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and Viz Media publishes the manga in English, complete at 45 volumes. Two more anime projects are in production. Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant is a Production I.G film set for 2027, covering the Spring High quarterfinal between Karasuno and Kamomedai, which puts Hoshiumi, one of the six characters on this menu, across the net from Karasuno's Shoyo Hinata. Alongside it comes a special anime titled Haikyu!! Where the Monsters Go.
