An FLCL Progressive Director Takes the Helm
According to Japanese anime news site Anime Hack, the January 2027 premiere announcement arrived with a full main staff list. Hiroshi Ikehata (FLCL Progressive, Dark Gathering) directs, with Katsuya Ōshima as assistant director, Hajime Mitsuda handling character design and chief animation direction, and Yū Satō on series composition and scripts.
Animation production is at Tatsunoko Production, the studio founded in 1962 that built its name on Speed Racer and Gatchaman. A story about a young woman towering over her own city is a natural fit for a studio with that much giant-hero history in its back catalog.
The adaptation itself was already public knowledge. Tatsunoko was announced as the studio back in March 2025. What was missing until now was everything else, and this update fills in the date, the staff, and a first look at the show's sense of scale.
A Vending-Machine Empire and One Very Big Heiress
Nikumura Q's manga has been running on Sunday Webry, Shogakukan's manga app, since 2021, with 12 volumes out as of August 2026. The premise: Oriko Fujido is the daughter of the Fujido conglomerate, which controls every vending machine and drink in the world, and she received an entire town as a present for her fourth birthday. Thanks to a newly developed drink, she grows to giant size and wages city-scale giant battles, played for comedy.
The new teaser visual puts that pitch front and center. It shows a giant-sized Oriko alongside Dr. Sebastian, her butler and researcher, who also happens to be an all-purpose rabbit. The copyright line even credits the fictional Fujido Group's own video publicity division.
"A Young Lady Bigger Than a Building"
In comments published by Anime Hack, Nikumura Q said the manga was drawn from the start with the thought that "a young lady bigger than a building, talking and moving" would be great as an anime, and said that seeing that day finally arrive is overwhelming.
Ikehata's comment opens by addressing "giant woman fans around the world" and then spirals into a pile-up of size words, promising an "XL-size" production and stacking up terms like "gigantic" and "super-dreadnought jumbo mammoth" before admitting he no longer knows what he is saying. His closing line: expect something big.
Looking Ahead
The series premieres in January 2027 as part of the Winter 2027 anime season. No network, exact date, or voice cast has been announced yet, and given that the teaser art features both Oriko and Dr. Sebastian, cast reveals for those two are likely the next announcements to watch for.
No international streaming partner has been announced. The manga also has no announced English edition so far; in Japan, volume 13 arrives September 11, 2026.
