Rarecho and Gaku Kinoshita Split the Directing Duties
Fanworks, whose credits include Aggretsuko and the Sumikko Gurashi film series, is handling animation production. Rarecho, who directed Aggretsuko and Chickip Dancers, takes on direction and series composition for two of the three shorts, Miseban no Spis and Ah, Tanuki wa Mō Dame Desu. Gaku Kinoshita, who directed the short series Sumikko Gurashi: Koko ga Ochitsukun Desu, handles Dekai Hachi.
In his comment, Rarecho said tackling two series with completely different concepts at the same time feels "like ordering a beef bowl and curry combo," and that he is enjoying the change of flavors as he works. Kinoshita described a different starting point for Dekai Hachi. Simply pushing cuteness up front would not fit a Yū-hachi work, he said, so he built his approach around strange characters who blend into ordinary daily life, letting viewers get to know their personalities, whether mischievous, unruly, or pure. He added that he hopes viewers can picture a fluffy yellow creature sitting beside them, chirping "pia, pia."
A 40-Centimeter Creature, a Motionless Fish, and Rental Tanuki
The omnibus covers three of Yū-hachi's signature series, per Fuji TV's announcement. Dekai Hachi follows the gentle, funny everyday life shared by humans and its title character, a mysterious creature 40 centimeters long. Miseban no Spis stars Pis-chan, a mysterious fish that appeared out of nowhere one day and neither moves nor changes expression. Ah, Tanuki wa Mō Dame Desu depicts daily life with tanuki (raccoon dogs) that show up as rental deliveries, and is known for the recurring line "oshimee da," a slangy way of saying "it's all over."
The newly released teaser visual gathers Dekai Hachi, Pis-chan, and the tanuki in a single image, while the teaser trailer on YouTube shows the characters in motion for the first time, keeping the loose look of the original comics intact.
The Creator Behind 490,000 Followers
Yū-hachi built an audience on social media with a style Fuji TV describes as loose and surreal, and counts more than 490,000 combined followers as of June 2026. The artist's work has been nominated in the web manga division of the Next Manga Award in both 2024 and 2025, and collaborations with Sanrio, railway operator Keio, and Japanese clothing chain Shimamura have drawn wide attention.
In a comment on the adaptation, Yū-hachi credited readers' support for making the anime happen and teased that the show will include anime-original characters and worldbuilding that differ from the manga, while promising to keep working on the source comics as well.
Looking Ahead
The shorts start airing in October 2026 inside Nonstop!, Fuji TV's information program, and Kansai TV's Shunkan LIVE Toretate!. Broadcast days and the voice cast have not been revealed yet, and Fuji TV says those details are coming later. No international streaming partner has been announced, and there is no word yet on English editions of the three manga. For now, the teaser trailer is the first look at the Yū-hachi world in motion.
