Puente Inc. released episode 1 of Under the Moon at the End of the East, an original anime based on artist Mellow's novel and song of the same name, on YouTube on November 7, 2026, according to the company's PR TIMES release. The episode is available with English subtitles on Mellow's channel, "Mellow-禁断の果実Forbidden Fruit-".
The first episode is titled "Kasa ga Nai" (傘がない, roughly "No Umbrella"). On a rainy night, an unsealed letter written 52 years earlier turns up inside a used record that cost ¥1,500. It is addressed to "Ninako." A girl who cannot give her name leaves her umbrella behind and walks out into the rain. A vertical short video was released alongside the episode.
The series has 12 episodes of about three minutes each, and every episode ends with the full version of Mellow's theme song. New episodes and shorts will be released every Friday at 20:00 JST through episode 12, starting with episode 2, whose title translates as "Rainy Alley, Black Cat." Each episode will carry English subtitles.
Mellow's novel is available in Japanese and in an English edition titled Under the Moon at the End of the East. Puente produced the anime, and the company's CEO wrote and directed it.
The release describes Mellow as an artist who handles lyrics, composition, arrangement, and artwork. As of November 7, 2026, Mellow's YouTube channel had more than 1.83 million subscribers.
