A TV anime adaptation of Satoshi Mizukami's manga Spirit Circle will begin broadcasting and streaming in December 2026, according to an official announcement published by Animate Times on November 5, 2026. It is the final directorial work of Tatsuo Satō, who died in April 2026.
The series will run 18 episodes, the assistant director said in a comment included in the announcement. Anime News Network reports that it will air in Japan and stream globally.
Satō, whose credits include Martian Successor Nadesico, served as both director and series composition writer. The announcement says production was completed with the assistant director at its center. NAGOMI and EOTA, both part of the Twin Engine group, handled the animation, and Anime News Network credits Satoru Fujimoto as character designer. In a joint statement, NAGOMI, EOTA and Twin Engine said they finished the anime by carrying on the feelings and intentions Satō put into it.
The story follows Fuuta Okeya, a middle schooler who can see ghosts, and Kouko Ishigami, a transfer student who tries to kill him because of a conflict rooted in their past lives. To learn the truth, Fuuta uses a tool called the Spirit Circle to relive those lives, which run from ancient times to the future. In his comment, Mizukami thanked the staff and Satō for overcoming the challenges of the adaptation, including seven times the usual setting work and an awkward length between one and two cours.
The main cast includes:
- Kazuki Ura as Fuuta Okeya
- Anna Nagase as Kouko Ishigami
- Eri Yukimura as Rune
- Yūichi Nakamura as East
The first promotional video, posted by Twin Engine, shows Kouko asking Fuuta whether he believes in reincarnation and telling him he must die seven more times. The teaser visual carries the tagline "No matter how many times I'm reborn, I'll come to kill you" (translated). Nagase also performs the ending theme, her first solo singing role.
The manga began serialization in 2012, and the anime arrives in the year marking a decade since its conclusion. It has more than 800,000 copies in cumulative print and digital circulation, according to the announcement. Seven Seas Entertainment published the manga physically in English, Anime News Network notes.
