Koji Nakamura Scores the Show and Writes Its Ending
The pick keeps the show's music in one pair of hands. Koji Nakamura is already composing the background score for Suikoden: The Anime, and now he also has the ending theme, according to a report from Japanese game news site 4Gamer. The press release attached to the story describes Nakamura as a former member of the rock band Supercar and the project iLL, who now heads the ambient project Hardcore Ambience alongside film and advertising scoring work.
Nakamura composed and arranged "closed eye sun." Honoka Takahashi (たかはしほのか), vocalist and guitarist of the Japanese rock band Regal Lily, wrote the lyrics and sings as guest vocalist. 日山豪 (likely Gō Hiyama) is credited as co-arranger.
Nakamura's comment ties the song's construction to the story it closes. Suikoden II is famous for its huge cast. Nakamura said he built the track around the image of many separate sounds gathering and influencing one another until they finally take the shape of music, the same way the show's many characters shape one big story. On Takahashi's performance, he said her singing sounds gentle, like the narration of the story, as if she is telling it herself.
Honoka Takahashi Played the Game First
Takahashi's own comment comes from the player's side. She said she cried repeatedly at the story while playing the RPG, and that she sang the song as if packing as many of those moments into words as she could. She also said she went into the recording session wholeheartedly glad to be part of the project alongside Nakamura's music.
The ending now has its counterpart in the opening. amazarashi's "Kanashimi Sae Otonabite" (悲しみさえ大人びて), revealed earlier this summer with the second PV, opens each episode, so both ends of the show now come from Japanese rock acts rather than anime-song specialists.
What the Third PV Shows
The third promotional video runs "closed eye sun" over new footage and carries the broadcast details in its title: the series starts October 3, 2026 on TOKYO MX, Kansai TV, BS Asahi and 32 stations in total. The press release confirms the premiere episode airs as a 60-minute special.
The anime adapts Konami's PlayStation RPG Suikoden II. Riliu and his best friend Jowy start out as members of a youth brigade in the Highland Kingdom and get pulled into a war that splits their paths, with the game's 108 Stars of Destiny in play. Toshiki Kumagai voices Riliu and Shimba Tsuchiya voices Jowy, with Ayumi Hinohara as Nanami, Katsuyuki Konishi as Viktor, Yūichi Nakamura as Flik and Taku Yashiro as the villain Luca Blight.
KONAMI animation, Konami's in-house studio, produces the series. Yūzō Satō directs, Michihiro Tsuchiya handles series composition, Ryō Yamauchi adapts the character designs and Yoshikazu Iwanami is sound director.
Looking Ahead
The premiere is October 3, 2026 in Japan. The press release lists an October 4, 2026 release date for "closed eye sun," and a pre-save page for the single is already live. Japanese theaters screened the first three episodes ahead of broadcast starting August 21, 2026.
No international streaming partner has been named. The official English site for Suikoden: The Anime lists Japanese broadcast details only, with no mention of Crunchyroll, Netflix or any other overseas platform. Fans outside Japan will have to wait for word on simulcast rights.
