Shaula's Farewell Closes a 400-Year Wait

The finale ran 45 minutes instead of the usual half hour, and it spent most of that extra room on one character. Subaru, Beatrice and Meili were still fighting through a magic beast stampede and a giant scorpion on the tower's first floor when Meili took a near-fatal hit from the scorpion Shaula had become. Julius arrived in time with a line fans seized on across Japanese social media: “Sorry to keep you waiting.” Viewers compared the timing and the framing to Reinhard's entrances. Several posts also noted that Subaru's and Julius's cheek scars now sit in mirrored positions, and that Subaru and Beatrice spit out sand in perfect sync.

Shaula never changed back. Subaru, Beatrice, Julius and a recovered Meili kept trying, and the episode gave her a goodbye rather than a rescue. She kissed Subaru, told him she loved him, and brushed off 400 years of waiting as nothing much: it went by in a flash, she said, like waiting for the day after tomorrow. Her last line insisted she loved the waiting, too.

Fairouz Ai (Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Kikoru Shinomiya in Kaiju No. 8) has voiced Shaula across the Watchtower story, and the posts collected by Japanese anime news site Anime Anime include fans saying outright how glad they were that she got the part. The moment that flooded the timeline came after the goodbye. A palm-sized scorpion crawled out of the collapsed giant, nosed at Subaru's feet, and settled onto his open hand as if it had been born again and recognized him.

Volcanica Calls Emilia by Another Name

Emilia's half of the finale raises more questions than it answers. She faced the divine dragon Volcanica on the first floor, where the party found a set of handprints, one of which matched Emilia's hand exactly. The episode treated that as too precise to pass for coincidence.

Volcanica then called her Stella, the Witch of Jealousy, and hinted at ties between her and the names Flugel, Reid, Shaula and Falseil (ファルセイル). “Now that you have become the Witch of Jealousy, we must stop you,” he said, speaking like someone who knows exactly how Stella got there. The fight began before he explained any of it and finished without him explaining any of it. Emilia overwhelmed him, the party cleared the first floor, and its secret stayed sealed.

The Last Five Minutes Undo the Victory

Subaru's group got through all five obstacles, but the trip did not give everyone back. Emilia aside, Rem and Julius still appear to be missing their memories, and the plan from here was to use the captured Roy Alphard to find a way to restore them. That plan lasted about a minute of screen time. Space tore open, Louis Arneb turned up as the third Gluttony, Satella intervened in some unexplained way, and Subaru and Rem woke in a place neither recognized. Rem opened her eyes at last, looked at Subaru, and asked who he was.

Season 4 ran as two blocks under director Masahiro Shinohara at WHITE FOX. The Loss Arc covered 11 episodes from April 8, 2026 across 21 Japanese stations including TOKYO MX and AT-X, and the Recapture Arc followed with eight episodes from August 12, closing on September 30. Masahiro Yokotani handled series composition with original author Tappei Nagatsuki supervising the scripts, Haruka Sagawa served as character designer and chief animation director, and Kenichiro Suehiro scored it. Yusuke Kobayashi voices Subaru, with Rie Takahashi as Emilia, Inori Minase as Rem, Satomi Arai as Beatrice and Takuya Eguchi as Julius.

Looking Ahead

No fifth season has been announced. Posts asking for one were already appearing before the terrestrial broadcast finished, according to the Anime Anime roundup.

The production marked the finale on September 30 with an epilogue visual of Rem looking up at Subaru, carried by Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie and others. Kobayashi's accompanying comment frames the Watchtower trip as an ending nobody can celebrate without reservation, since the group lost things alongside what it recovered. Minase closed hers by saying she believes they will meet again.

For international viewers, Crunchyroll holds streaming rights to season 4 and has carried it week to week since the April premiere, so the finale is available there. Yen Press publishes the light novels in English, and its releases have already moved past the Arc 6 material this season adapts; the Japanese run stands at 46 volumes. The Break Time short for episode 85, “Sasori no Otogibanashi” (roughly, A Scorpion's Fairy Tale), is already up on the official Re:Zero YouTube channel.
