The Road to the Pleiades Watchtower

The Recapture arc picks up after the brutal fight for the water-gate city of Priestella. Subaru's side won, but the price was steep: Rem still won't wake, held under by the Gluttony authority, Crusch has lost her memories, and Julius has lost his very name.

Their one lead is the Sage Shaula, a figure said to see through all things and hold all knowledge. According to the series overview on Oricon News, the Japanese entertainment news outlet, Shaula resides in the Pleiades Watchtower, a tower rising from the far end of the Augria Sand Dunes. That desert has never been conquered, not even by Reinhard, the strongest Sword Saint. Raging nature, unknown demon beasts, and worse stand between the party and the tower.

The cour opened Wednesday, August 12 at 11:00 p.m. on TOKYO MX and 20 other stations nationwide with episode 78, which doubles as episode 12 of the season and carries the title Kore kara no Hanashi (roughly, "What Comes Next"). A new promotional video went out for the premiere, hinting at a new enemy. The video doesn't reveal who that enemy is; the answer will come as the desert episodes air.

Fairouz Ai Voices the Sage Waiting at the End of the Desert

Fairouz Ai (Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean) voices Shaula, the star-keeper of the watchtower. Tomokazu Sugita plays Reid Astrea, the first-generation Sword Saint who was active some 400 years ago and founded the Astrea family line.

The Witch Cult is represented too. Kengo Kawanishi pulls double duty as the Sin Archbishops Lye Batenkaitos and Roy Alphard, while Konomi Kohara voices Louis Arneb, a third archbishop of the cult.

Yūsuke Kobayashi returns as Natsuki Subaru, alongside Rie Takahashi as Emilia, Inori Minase as Rem, and Takuya Eguchi as Julius Juukulius, the knight whose stolen name drives much of this journey. Satomi Arai (Beatrice), Rie Murakawa (Ram), Kana Ueda (Anastasia Hoshin), and Eri Suzuki (Meili Portroute) round out the announced lineup.

WHITE FOX Returns With New Songs From Series Veterans

WHITE FOX, the studio that has animated Re:Zero since the 2016 first season, is back for the new cour. Masahiro Shinohara directs, with series composition by Masahiro Yokotani, character designs and chief animation direction by Haruka Sagawa, and music by Kenichirō Suehiro. Original creator Tappei Nagatsuki, whose novels run under Kadokawa's MF Bunko J light novel imprint, supervises the scripts himself.

The arc also brings new theme songs. Konomi Suzuki, who sang the franchise's very first opening theme "Redo" in 2016, performs the new opening "Recollect." The ending theme, "Ender Ember," comes from MYTH & ROID featuring TK of the rock band Ling tosite sigure; MYTH & ROID's history with the series stretches back to Season 1's "STYX HELIX."

Looking Ahead

The Recapture arc runs eight episodes, airing weekly on Wednesdays through September 30, 2026. Crunchyroll is simulcasting the season internationally, while in Japan the show streams on U-NEXT. Episode previews and promotional videos are posted to the official Re:Zero site and the series' official YouTube channel.

Readers who want to get ahead of the anime can pick up Tappei Nagatsuki's original novels in English from Yen Press's Yen On imprint. As for whether Subaru actually recovers what Gluttony took from Rem, Crusch, and Julius, that's what these final eight episodes are for.
