The theatrical anime Witch on the Holy Night and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- announced a collaboration on October 14, 2026, releasing a joint visual newly drawn by their animation studios, ufotable and Shaft. The visual pairs Madoka Kaname from Madoka Magica with Aoko Aozaki from Witch on the Holy Night, the lead characters of the two films, according to a press release carried by Famitsu.

The Madoka film has been playing in Japanese theaters since August 28, 2026, and Witch on the Holy Night opens nationwide in Japan on November 20, 2026. A collaboration special site is now open, and an announcement video has been released.

Aoi Yuki, who voices Madoka Kaname, and Haruka Tomatsu, who voices Aoko Aozaki, each sent comments for the release. Yuki said magic is depicted differently from work to work, and suggested viewers look for the differences and the common ground between the two films' magic. Tomatsu said she found it very fresh to hear the two characters talk across the boundary between the works.

Viewing campaign and theater promotions

A prize campaign is running alongside the announcement. Entrants who submit a photo of a ticket stub (or a screenshot of the entry QR code) for the Madoka film together with a Mubichike advance ticket for Witch on the Holy Night can win a Madoka Magica x Witch on the Holy Night collaboration poster. The qualifying viewing period runs from October 14 to November 6, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. JST, and applications close on November 9, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. JST.

A large banner using the collaboration visual goes up at the Shinjuku Wald 9 cinema in Tokyo from October 17 to October 29, 2026. Special B5 collaboration flyers will be handed out at that cinema's ninth-floor information counter from 10 a.m. JST on October 17, and at Machi Asobi vol. 31 in Tokushima, in front of the former Mizuho Bank Tokushima branch, from 10 a.m. JST on October 17 and 18; distribution ends once supplies run out.
