Kenshi Yonezu's Chainsaw Man Song Breaks All-Time Records

Kenshi Yonezu's "IRIS OUT," the theme song for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, continues to shatter music chart records both domestically and internationally, cementing the artist's position as one of Japan's most dominant musical forces.

The track secured its sixth consecutive week at number one on Billboard Japan's comprehensive song chart "JAPAN Hot 100" (published October 29) with 16,088 points. This achievement surpassed Yonezu's own previous record of five consecutive weeks set by "Lemon" in January 2019, establishing a new personal best for the artist.

The historic run extends across multiple platforms. On the Oricon music rankings (dated November 3), "IRIS OUT" claimed the top spot on both the weekly streaming ranking and weekly digital single ranking, marking the song's fourth dual chart domination. Combining this week's Billboard Japan and Oricon achievements, the track now holds seven concurrent number one positions, with four of those maintaining their lead for six straight weeks.

The streaming dominance has reached unprecedented levels. On Billboard Japan's "Streaming Songs" chart, Yonezu accomplished the extraordinary feat of monopolizing the top three positions for two consecutive weeks. "IRIS OUT" leads with 19,494,535 plays, maintaining its six-week reign at number one. The movie's ending theme "JANE DOE," a collaboration with Hikaru Utada, secured second place with 9,885,724 plays. Meanwhile, "1991," the theme song for the film 5 Centimeters Per Second, claimed third position with 6,996,414 streams.

Multiple all-time records have fallen in the wake of "IRIS OUT." On the October 1 Billboard Japan "JAPAN Hot 100" chart, the song debuted at number one with 29,533 points, achieving the highest point total since the chart's metric revision in 2023. The streaming figures reached 28,733,082 plays, marking the highest playback count ever recorded for a Japanese-language track in the chart's history.

International recognition has been equally remarkable. The song reached number five on the U.S. Billboard Global 200 chart (dated October 4 and October 11) for two consecutive weeks, establishing the highest chart position ever achieved by a Japanese-language song on this global ranking.

Since its digital release on September 15, "IRIS OUT" has systematically rewritten chart history across domestic and international platforms. As an anime theme song, it represents an exceptional commercial breakthrough, continuing to reshape expectations within the music industry.

The question remains how far this momentum will carry. The world continues to watch as Kenshi Yonezu's sound resonates across borders.
