Hello Kitty and the V&A Join, Moomin Returns for Round Two
The 2027 edition marks the 26th year for the planner since its 2001 debut, and the collaboration slate mixes new partners with returning favorites. Hello Kitty, the Japanese puppet character Puppet Sunsun, and London's Victoria and Albert Museum all join for the first time, according to a report from Japanese entertainment news site Anime Anime.
Moomin is back for a second year after its 2026 collab proved hugely popular. The 2027 version includes a special edition of the weeks planner, Hobonichi's slim weekly format, printed with Moomin quotes and illustrations. ONE PIECE magazine, the official companion magazine to Eiichiro Oda's manga, continues its run as well: 2027 marks the fifth year of that partnership.
Picture Books, Custom Inks, and a New Scrapbooking Line
Beyond the character covers, the art side of the lineup pulls from museums and children's literature. The V&A series turns pieces from the London museum's collection into planners, Leo Lionni's classic picture book Frederick gets its own designs, and picture-book artist Akiko Miyakoshi collaborates with Hobonichi for the first time.
The stationery side grows too. A new collaboration with the ink and pen maker Kakimori produces a fountain pen and rollerball pen in original Hobonichi colors, plus mini ink sets blended from Kakimori inks to match the Techo's 12 signature colors, along with pigment inks. And Hobonichi is launching an entirely new stationery series called collect & collage, built around keeping everyday paper memories (ticket stubs, wrapping, notes from trips and gifts). The first wave covers a scrap notebook, stickers, and a rotating stamp.
A First Flagship Store Inside Tokyo Station
Hobonichi is also opening its first-ever flagship store for the Techo, located in JR Tokyo Station, with the opening slated for mid-September according to the brand's official announcements. The shop will carry limited-edition items featuring Suica's Penguin, the mascot of JR East's Suica transit card, a fitting exclusive for a store inside Japan's busiest rail hub.
The Hobonichi Techo app is getting a string of new features as well, including one that lets users hold their techo kaigi, the "planner conference" ritual of mapping out next year's setup, right inside the app.
Looking Ahead
The full 2027 lineup goes on sale Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Japan time through the Hobonichi Online Store, with Tobichi shops in Tokyo and Kyoto, Loft stores, and Amazon in Japan also stocking the line. International fans are not left out: Hobonichi runs a full English-language storefront and has been posting daily English previews of every 2027 collab on the official Hobonichi Techo preview site, including English-edition planners. The Tokyo Station flagship follows in mid-September, so travelers passing through Japan this fall can pick up the Suica's Penguin exclusives in person.
