Fujimoto Has Already Seen It Seven Times
Original creator Tatsuki Fujimoto kept his comment short and very on-brand. "I've watched it about seven times, so it feels strange that I can watch it for free!" he said, per Japanese anime news site Anime Anime. The announcement helpfully footnotes the word "free": it means no additional charge for Prime members.
Director Tatsuya Yoshihara went much longer. He credited the film's texture to the whole production staff, pointing to details that were never in the script or storyboards, from background objects to character acting, line deliveries, and sound design. He also said he hopes both first-time viewers and repeat watchers enjoy the story in whatever way fits their lives, whether that means sinking into it on a big TV or watching on a phone.
The new visual, drawn for the streaming announcement, shows Chainsaw Man and Bomb clashing against a nighttime cityscape, a fitting image for a film built around Denji and Reze's collision course.
A ¥29.7 Billion Theatrical Run
Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc picks up where the worldwide hit TV anime left off, adapting a fan-favorite storyline from Fujimoto's manga, published by Shueisha. The theatrical numbers were huge: worldwide box office stood at ¥29.7 billion (approx. $200 million) as of June 19, 2026, after the film opened in Japan on September 19, 2025.
MAPPA handled production, with Yoshihara directing from a screenplay by Hiroshi Seko, and Toho distributing. The music lineup is stacked even by Chainsaw Man standards: Kenshi Yonezu's "IRIS OUT" serves as the theme song, the ending theme "JANE DOE" pairs Yonezu with Hikaru Utada, and Maximum the Hormone contributes an insert song.
Denji, a Rainstorm, and a Girl Named Reze
The setup, as the announcement describes it: Denji, now carrying a devil's heart as Chainsaw Man, works as a devil hunter in Public Safety's Special Division 4. Caught in a sudden downpour while riding high on a date with Makima, he takes shelter and happens to meet Reze, a girl who says she works at a nearby cafe. She smiles at him, the two get close fast, and Denji's everyday life starts to change.
Kikunosuke Toya voices Denji, Tomori Kusunoki plays Makima, and Reina Ueda (Kanao Tsuyuri in Demon Slayer) voices Reze.
Looking Ahead
In Japan, the film streams exclusively on Prime Video from September 19, 2026, at no extra cost for Prime members. The announcement came with a comment from Prime Video's Japan country manager Keisuke Oishi. The exclusivity appears to apply to the Japanese market: outside Japan, the film has been streaming on Crunchyroll since April 30, 2026, with both subtitled and English-dubbed versions. If the movie sends you back to the source material, Viz Media publishes the Chainsaw Man manga in English, and it also runs on Shueisha's Manga Plus app.
