Toshiya Wakabayashi's four-panel manga Happy Kanako's Killer Life (『幸せカナコの殺し屋生活』) is getting a television anime that will broadcast in April 2027, Oricon reported on October 17, 2026. The announcement came with a teaser PV, a teaser visual and three cast members.
Hana Tamegai voices the protagonist, Kanako Nishino, in her first lead role. Ryota Suzuki plays Sakurai, Kanako's senior at the company, and Junichi Suwabe plays the company president.
Shinji Takamatsu directs; Oricon lists his comedy credits as Kochikame, Gintama and Grand Blue. Animation production is by Drive, which Oricon credits with KonoSuba season 3 and Ganbare Nakamura-kun!!, and Yoshiyuki Okubo of the Senki Zessho Symphogear series is character designer.
In the manga, Kanako quits an exploitative company determined to move to a decent employer, and the job she picks turns out to be as a killer — one with a ¥600,000 starting salary, weekends and public holidays off, and full benefits. The series follows her new working life there.
The teaser PV opens with a mock job-placement-agency commercial featuring a real Asian small-clawed otter, then shows Kanako quitting her old company and deciding to become a killer. The teaser visual is a newly drawn illustration of Kanako at an interview for the killer job, confused and surrounded by handguns pointed at her from every direction. The video is on the TOHO animation channel on YouTube.
In a comment carried by Oricon, Takamatsu said that for a story about a killer, few works stay so close to the feeling of "I guess I'll go in to work again tomorrow" — though he added that the way it does so is rather dangerous. Tamegai said she also voices animal characters in the series.
Oricon says the manga's collected volumes have passed 1.2 million copies in cumulative circulation, and that the live-action drama series starring Non and Taisuke Fujigaya of Kis-My-Ft2 was also a hit.
