Hinata and Hoshiumi, Eye to Eye
The concept visual for Haikyu!! VS. The Little Giant puts its whole premise in a single image. Shōyō Hinata and Kōrai Hoshiumi stand on the court of the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, the venue for the Spring Nationals (the All-Japan High School Volleyball Championship), staring each other down at exactly the same eye level. That framing is the point: both are undersized spikers who play far bigger than their height, and the film pits Karasuno High against Kamomedai High in a duel of "Little Giants," according to Japanese anime news site Anime Hack.
The film picks up from 2024's Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, and the team behind that movie is back. Director Susumu Mitsunaka returns with animation once again handled at Production I.G. Ayumu Murase voices Hinata and Kaito Ishikawa voices Tobio Kageyama, while Hoshiumi is played by Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer).
Bokuto and Kiryū Trade Blows in the Action PV
The special anime Haikyu!! Where the Monsters Go covers a match the anime has never touched: Fukurodani Academy versus Mujinazaka High. The new action PV on the TOHO animation channel shows fresh footage from the special itself, including Fukurodani's Kōtarō Bokuto and Mujinazaka's Wakatsu Kiryū, two of the country's top aces, hammering spikes at each other.
The teaser visual draws on the tournament tradition of cheer banners. Bokuto and Kiryū stand in front of banners reading "ikkyu nyukon" (pour your soul into every ball) and "hyakuren seiko" (forged a hundred times into steel), each a symbol of its school's strength. Anime Hack also shared two school visuals built around each team's ace-and-setter pairing: Bokuto with Keiji Akaashi for Fukurodani, and Kiryū with Michiru Usuri for Mujinazaka.
A Crossover With Japan's Pro Volleyball All-Stars
The franchise is also stepping onto a real court. A collaboration between the Haikyu!! anime and the SV.League All Star Games 2026-27 Hokkaido, the all-star exhibition for Japan's professional volleyball league, is set for January 30, 2027. Murase is taking part, with newly recorded voice lines playing inside the venue, and fans on site can expect character photo spots and costumed-character meet-and-greets.
For a series that has spent a decade selling volleyball itself as the draw, a pro-league all-star tie-in is a natural fit. Haruichi Furudate's original manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020 and has over 75 million copies in circulation, and the TV anime aired four seasons between 2014 and 2020.
Looking Ahead
Both projects are dated for 2027 in Japan, with the film opening in theaters and the special anime's PV promising the Fukurodani match will start the same year. Neither has an exact date yet, and no international release plans have been announced for either one. In the meantime, the source manga is fully available in English from Viz Media, so the Kamomedai and Mujinazaka matches are already on the page.
