Two Teaser Visuals, Two Very Different Moods
The reveal, reported by Japanese anime news site Animate Times, centers on the series' first-ever anime artwork: two teaser visuals dropped at the same time. The "Tokimeki" version (tokimeki being the Japanese word for that heart-fluttering rom-com feeling) keeps things intimate. Hiro Momose (百瀬尋), a girl who can't say no when people rope her into errands, is pressed close to Dan Ichikura (壱倉煖), the glasses-wearing ex-delinquent at the center of the story.
The "Yankee" version ("yankee" being Japanese slang for a delinquent) flips the mood entirely. Momose and Ichikura are joined by four more characters from the manga: 五十嵐 (Igarashi), 左京, 八千代, and 弥太郎 (likely Sakyō, Yachiyo, and Yatarō). The group shot swaps rom-com glow for full-on intimidation. Fitting, since the series' official tagline translates to roughly "falling for a delinquent boy is a thrill."
A teaser promotional video rounds out the reveal, cutting both visuals together so you can take in the contrast between them in one go. It's up now on ABC Animation's YouTube channel.
Makoto Hoshino Directs at Studio Flad and Wao World
The core staff is locked in. Makoto Hoshino (星野真) directs, Megumi Shimizu (清水恵) handles series composition, and Ruriko Watanabe (渡辺るりこ) is designing the characters. Animation production is a two-studio job, with Studio Flad and Wao World sharing duties.
Hoshino's announcement comment reads like it comes from someone who already gets the joke at the heart of the series. He described the leads as "a funny guy who seriously believes that as long as he wears glasses he looks like an honor student" paired with a funny girl who is usually thinking something rude, and said that watching the two of them together is entertainment in itself. He also promised the anime will carry over the manga's atmosphere.
One thing the announcement did not include: cast. Voice actors are still unannounced, and the broadcast schedule beyond "2027" is open too.
A Million-Copy Bessatsu Friend Rom-Com
Glasses With a Chance of Delinquent (Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun in Japanese) is Naruki's shojo rom-com serialized in Bessatsu Friend, Kodansha's monthly shojo magazine. The series had a short initial run in 2021, returned in July 2022, and has been going strong since. It stands at 11 volumes as of May 2026, with over 1 million copies in circulation as of this April.
The anime adaptation was first announced in April 2026, which makes this staff-and-visuals drop the project's first real look in the four months since.
Looking Ahead
The next milestones to watch for are a cast reveal and an actual broadcast date; for now, "2027" is all we have, and no international streaming partner has been announced. The manga is easy to catch up on in English, though. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the series in English, starting with volume 1 in January 2025, and Kodansha's K Manga app runs simultaneous English chapters alongside the Japanese release.
