Fullmetal Alchemist Creator Hiromu Arakawa's Yomi no Tsugai Gets 2026 TV Anime

Yomi no Tsugai, the highly anticipated new work from Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa currently running in Monthly Shonen Gangan, will premiere as a TV anime in 2026. The production marks a reunion of Square Enix, Aniplex, and Studio Bones, the same powerhouse team behind the legendary Fullmetal Alchemist franchise.

The main voice cast has been announced, featuring Kensho Ono as Yuru, Yume Miyamoto as Asa, Yuichi Nakamura as Dera, and Misaki Kuno as Gab-chan. A special cast announcement trailer featuring the first character voices has been released, offering fans their initial glimpse into the anime adaptation.

The series follows siblings Yuru and Asa living in a remote mountain village. When armed soldiers suddenly attack and a mysterious woman in black appears claiming to be Asa's sibling, Yuru must unlock the seal of creatures called Tsugai to protect those he loves. The manga has already surpassed 4 million copies in circulation since its serialization began in Monthly Shonen Gangan.

In his comment, Kensho Ono expressed disbelief at joining an Arakawa production, noting the intense dedication from both cast and staff during recording sessions. Yume Miyamoto revealed she celebrated her casting by treating herself to solo yakiniku, thrilled to work alongside her childhood idol Ono. Yuichi Nakamura, returning to an Arakawa work since voicing Greed in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, observed thematic parallels between the concept of paired beings in Yomi no Tsugai, and equivalent exchange in Fullmetal Alchemist. Misaki Kuno shared her love for Gab-chan's toothy smile and expressed determination to capture the character's unique presence.

Alongside the anime announcement, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray releases of Fullmetal Alchemist theatrical films The Conqueror of Shamballa and The Sacred Star of Milos have been confirmed for January 28, 2026, priced at 7,700 yen each. A special screening event combining Fullmetal Alchemist films with advance Yomi no Tsugai, episodes is also planned, with further details forthcoming.

Director Masahiro Ando, who helmed Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Season 2, returns to direct the new series. Character designs are handled by Nobuhiro Arai, with series composition by Noboru Takagi. The anime will feature Tsugai creature designs by Koji Sugiura and Yoshiyuki Ito, maintaining Studio Bones' reputation for high-quality fantasy animation.
