Hikasa and Tōyama Lead Five New Additions

The latest Comic Natalie report reveals five new voice cast members for The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects, the territory-building slow-life fantasy anime premiering this summer. Yōko Hikasa (Mio Akiyama in K-On!, Rias Gremory in High School DxD) joins as Diarne (ディアーネ), the capital's Third Princess caught in a royal succession struggle who seeks out protagonist Dias after learning the "Hero of the Nation" has settled in the frontier.

Nao Tōyama (Rin Shima in Laid-Back Camp, Yui Yuigahama in My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected) voices Eima (エイマ), a nimble, highly intelligent mouse demi-human known as a "large-eared jumping mouse person." Veteran voice actor Kujira, known for voicing Orochimaru in Naruto, takes on Mole (モール), the horn-bearing ogre tribe chief who mentors the fledgling lord. In her cast comment, Kujira described Mole with characteristic humor as "a magic-using old hag — an ogre granny in every sense of the word" who will undoubtedly whip Dias into shape.

Rikuya Yasuda and Maria Abo round out the additions as Francis and Françoise, a pair of Meers — gentle, intelligent creatures that live alongside the ogre tribe, understand human speech, and provide their fur to support village life. Yasuda noted that Francis's dialogue so far consists entirely of "Meaaa!" but teased that the Meers may get their own spotlight episode. Abo delivered her entire cast comment in Meer-speak, with Japanese translations tucked into parentheses.

Theme Songs and Second PV

The anime's opening theme is "Wonder" by CROWN HEAD, a Japan-Korea band, while the ending theme — "Hoshi Furu Yoru no Yakusoku" (A Starry Night's Promise) — is performed by Kaya (花耶). A newly released second PV previews the opening.

CROWN HEAD described "Wonder" as a song about "the loneliness and the preciousness of believing in and living alongside others," hoping it captures the world Dias sees around him. Kaya said she wrote the ending's lyrics to evoke "the straightforward dreams and pure feelings we tend to forget as we grow up." A signed-shikishi giveaway featuring all five new cast members plus CROWN HEAD and Kaya is running on the anime's official X account through June 4, 2026, with 21 winners.

What Is The Frontier Lord About?

The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects follows Dias, a celebrated national hero unexpectedly appointed lord of a frontier territory with zero residents and nothing but open grassland. His fortunes change when he meets Arnar, a young ogre-tribe girl who brings him back to her village, kicking off a territory-building fantasy about turning empty land into a thriving community. The source novel is written by Fūrō and published by Earth Star Entertainment, with a manga adaptation illustrated by Yunbo.

The anime is directed by Kenichi Imaizumi, whose credits include directing Kingdom seasons 3 through 6, with series composition by Kunihiko Okada, character design by Keiichi Tsuboyama, and animation production at studio42. The previously announced main cast features Kenichirō Matsuda as Dias, Shion Wakayama as Arnar, Jun Fukuyama as Eldan, Miku Itō as Senai, Haruka Shiraishi as Aihan, and Taito Saka as Klaus.

Looking Ahead

The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects premieres July 10, 2026 on TOKYO MX. No international streaming partner has been confirmed, and the source novel does not currently have an English-language release.
