Two Detective Shows, Two Networks, One Crossover
This isn't just another anime crossover — it's a logistical milestone. Detective Conan airs on Yomiuri TV (an NTV affiliate), produced by TMS Entertainment (Detective Conan, Lupin III). Star Detective Precure! airs on ABC (a TV Asahi affiliate), produced by Toei Animation (One Piece, Dragon Ball). Different networks, different studios, different publishers. Getting these two "Great Detective" anime into the same episodes required a year of behind-the-scenes negotiations, according to both producers.
The crossover spans two episodes across two consecutive weekends, as reported by Comic Natalie. Conan crosses into Precure territory first on May 31, then Cure Answer returns the favor in Conan's world on June 6.
What Happens in Each Episode
Star Detective Precure! Episode 18, titled "The Great Detectives Assemble" (名探偵の共演), airs May 31, 2026 at 8:30 AM. Anna and Mikuru stumble onto a stolen artwork case at a museum and run into Conan, Ran, and Kogoro — who happen to be visiting Makoto Mirai City. The Precure team and Conan join forces to take on the Phantom thief group, the show's recurring villains.
The Detective Conan episode, titled "Hanamaru na Shinjitsu" (はなまるな真実), airs June 6, 2026 at 6:00 PM. A string of jewelry robberies hits Beika Town, and Ayumi — a devoted Precure fan within the show — gets excited when she connects the crimes to a storyline from the anime she watches, convinced that where there are thieves, Precure can't be far behind. The Detective Boys stake out the next targeted jewelry store and help crack the case, but Ayumi picks up on something the others miss.
The Producers Pulled This Off in a Year
Both shows' producers shared comments alongside the announcement on Comic Natalie. Takeshi Yoshida, the Detective Conan producer at Yomiuri TV, said he met Precure producer Kanako Tada about a year ago when she pitched the idea. Despite the cross-network hurdles — no precedent, different rights holders, different production pipelines — Yoshida said his immediate reaction was confidence that it would be fun. He teased that a special message to Precure fans is hidden after the "Next Conan's Hint" segment.
Tada, the Star Detective Precure! producer at ABC Animation, described pitching the collab a year ago with a "worst case, we crash and burn" mentality. She noted that aligning on a shared goal — "the viewers' enjoyment comes first" — is what ultimately made the deal work. As a personal fan who has watched Detective Conan since elementary school, Tada called the collaboration "deeply moving" during the show's 30th anniversary year.
Looking Ahead
International fans can follow both halves of the crossover on Crunchyroll, which simulcasts Star Detective Precure! globally and streams curated Detective Conan episode selections (with new English dubs) alongside Netflix. The Precure half airs first on May 31, followed by the Conan episode on June 6 — both dates are Japan broadcast times, so check Crunchyroll for regional availability.
The crossover caps a strong stretch for both franchises. Detective Conan recently hit four consecutive theatrical films surpassing ¥10 billion at the Japanese box office, while Star Detective Precure! has drawn attention as the first Precure series built around a mystery format. Whether this cross-network experiment opens the door for future collaborations between the two — or stays a one-off novelty — is anyone's guess.
