A Counterfeit ¥10,000 Note Pulls In Every Detective in the Series
The special, titled Detective Conan: 30-gō Satsujin Jiken (roughly "The No. 30 Murder Case"), builds its two hours around money. A new ¥10,000 banknote bearing the Tōto Tower has just entered circulation, and Conan, the Detective Boys, Professor Agasa, Ran Mouri and Sonoko Suzuki are touring the Nagano plant of Japan's banknote printing bureau. At the same time, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police find a counterfeit note at a murder scene and set up an investigation headquarters. Once the unprecedented news of fake bills in circulation goes public, Conan and Heiji Hattori head for Osaka, where the counterfeits are believed to have been printed.
The cast list is the draw. Rather than a single murder in a single room, the special puts the detectives, police departments from across the country, the public security police and the FBI on the same national-scale case, which Japanese anime news site Anime Anime describes as the largest all-star cast in Conan's history. Minami Takayama (Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service) returns as Conan Edogawa, with Akemi Okamura (Nami in One Piece) as Ran Mouri and Rikiya Koyama as Kogoro Mouri. Nobuharu Kamanaka, who has run the TV series as director since 2020, directs, Takeharu Sakurai writes, Katsuo Ono handles music, and TMS Entertainment animates. Production is credited to Yomiuri TV, Shogakukan and TMS.
Detective Conan is Gosho Aoyama's mystery manga, still running in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday, where volume 108 is the current Japanese release. The TV anime started in January 1996 and hit its 30th year in 2026, while the annual film series has kept posting record-breaking grosses, most recently with Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway.
Thirty Character Playlists, Plus a Cake in Shibuya
Ahead of the special going live, Netflix put up "Special Selection," 30 curated episode collections built around individual characters including Conan, Shinichi Kudo, Ran Mouri and Kaito Kid. Each set pulls episodes from the TV run that best show off that character's personality and relationships. For a series past 1,200 episodes, that framing helps: longtime viewers get a fast route back to specific scenes, and anyone starting from zero can pick a character and follow them instead of confronting three decades of episode numbers.
The physical side of the campaign runs at Tokyo's Shibuya Hikarie complex. From September 26 through 29, 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., the first-floor Event Square hosts an oversized anniversary cake monument plus character panels of Conan, Ran Mouri, Kogoro Mouri, Ai Haibara, Kaito Kid, Toru Amuro and Heiji Hattori in costumes made for this campaign only. Conan delivers a special voice message at the venue, and tapping a panel with a phone opens that character's Special Selection page, turning a photo spot into a watchlist.
Netflix Japan also put out a commemorative ad for the exclusive streaming launch, and a special trailer for the two-hour episode is up on its channel.
Looking Ahead
The 30th-anniversary project started in April 2025, and Anime Anime frames this Netflix rollout as its finale. In Japan, the special and the full TV series are both on Netflix now.
Internationally, the picture is less settled. The source covers the Japanese Netflix launch only, and there is no word yet on when or whether 30-gō Satsujin Jiken reaches Netflix outside Japan. US viewers do have a foothold: a curated "Conan vs. The Black Organization" selection landed on Crunchyroll and Netflix with the franchise's first fresh English dub in more than a decade, per a ScreenRant report, though that batch does not include this special. Fans outside Japan will have to wait for a regional announcement.
On the print side, the manga is available in English from Viz Media under the Case Closed title, so the source material is the reliable entry point while the streaming rights sort themselves out.
