A Menu Built Around Fallen Angel of the Highway
Osechi, for readers outside Japan, are the tiered boxes of celebratory food that Japanese families eat over the New Year holiday, usually stocked with symbolic staples like black soybeans and candied sardines. Character-branded osechi have become an annual merch category of their own, and Conan's is one of the proven sellers. According to Anime Anime, a Japanese anime news site, the osechi series has sold out for five straight years since it launched.
The 2027 edition, subtitled "Memorial" (祝彩の記憶), was developed with Sunday Premium SHOP, the official merchandise store for Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday, where Gosho Aoyama's mystery manga has run since 1994. What sets this year's box apart is how much of the menu nods to Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, the franchise's 29th film, which opened in Japan on April 10, 2026 and broke the series' three-day opening record.
The centerpiece tribute is a wing-shaped nerikiri, a sculpted bean-paste sweet modeled on the wings of Chihaya Hagiwara, the Kanagawa motorcycle cop at the heart of the film. She shows up again in the second tier, where a strawberry sauce and a pancake-style dish take inspiration from her and inspector Jugo Yokomizo. Elsewhere, a layered sakura yokan (a firm red-bean jelly) references the Police Academy, and the box styles its black soybeans (kuromame) after the Black Organization. Kuromame are a fixture of traditional osechi anyway, so the villains claim their spot on a technicality.
What's in the Two Tiers
The set packs 26 dishes into a two-tier box measuring 19.6 by 19.6 by 13 centimeters and serves two to three people. The first tier holds 14 traditional Japanese items, including lobster, seasoned herring roe, herring rolled in kombu, and tazukuri (candied sardines), alongside food sleeves designed after Conan Edogawa, Ran Mori, and Kaito Kid.
The second tier goes Western and Chinese with 12 dishes built around boneless spare ribs. This is where the character menu gets specific: a shrimp chili dish for Shuichi Akai, a purple cabbage rapé for Ai Haibara, and grilled fugu for Heiji Hattori. Food picks shaped like Conan's bow-tie voice changer and Kaito Kid's silk hat finish the presentation.
The Extras Include an Aoyama New Year's Card and a TCG Promo
Beyond the food, the tiered box itself carries original artwork of Conan, Ran, and Kaito Kid, and a printed menu is included. The bundled extras run long: a New Year's card from Gosho Aoyama, an ema (a wooden votive plaque of the kind sold at shrines) with Conan artwork, celebratory chopsticks, an additional pick modeled on the criminal-tracking glasses, decorative food dividers, and a mini wooden box printed with a Conan illustration.
