A New Crew Walks Into Night City
Netflix ran through its upcoming anime lineup in front of roughly 2,200 fans at Anime NYC 2026, the New York anime convention currently underway, and the headline reveal was a date. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 begins streaming worldwide on October 20, 2026, according to a report from Japanese gaming and entertainment outlet Famitsu.
The sequel to Trigger's 2022 series swaps out the entire cast, protagonist included. The first Edgerunners followed David, a teenage street kid who paid dearly to survive as an outlaw mercenary in Night City, the megacity where technology and body modification rule daily life. Per the announcement, the new season sends a fresh set of characters into the city's darkest territory and portrays its future world as rawer and harder-edged than before. A new teaser trailer arrived alongside the date. Anime News Network adds that the sequel is a 10-episode standalone story directed by Kai Ikarashi, a storyboard artist and animation director on the first series making his directorial debut.
Sunrise and Shaft Put a Date on Fool Night
Fool Night, the first-ever co-production between Sunrise and Shaft, will release all of its episodes at once on November 26, 2026.
The setting is a far-future Earth where thick cloud cover has left the planet in permanent winter and night. Most plant life is dead, oxygen is running out, and humanity survives through "transflowering," a technology that implants a seed in the body of someone near death and converts them into an oxygen-producing flower. A second teaser introduces protagonist Toshiro Kamiya (voiced by Kōki Uchiyama), a young man so ground down by poverty that he applies for transflowering himself. The trailer hints the procedure brings something other than a simple release from suffering.
Three cast members join with the new trailer: Junya Enoki (Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Akira Yatsuka, Aya Endō as Saeko Kanaeno, and Kiyomitsu Mizuuchi as Jin Hiragishi. In a companion making-of video, director Atsuyuki Yukawa said the team's guiding principle was to render the story's cruelest moments as its most beautiful.
One Piece Twice Over
Two One Piece projects got new material. The One Piece, the series from Wit Studio (Attack on Titan seasons 1-3, Spy x Family) that re-adapts Eiichiro Oda's Weekly Shonen Jump manga from the East Blue arc onward, revealed key art ahead of its February 2027 global premiere. The illustration recreates the cover of the manga's very first chapter: Luffy and Nami alongside Shanks and the Red-Haired Pirates, hoisting a pirate flag and tearing into hunks of meat with treasure piled around them.
Lego One Piece, a two-part animated special that retells the adventures of Netflix's live-action One Piece in Lego form, streams September 29, 2026. Its full trailer hands the narration to Usopp, who spins heavily embellished tales of the Straw Hats' voyage for Chopper, the crew's newest recruit. The special also announced casting that One Piece fans will find familiar: Shigeru Chiba as Buggy, Hiroki Tōchi as Arlong, and Misa Watanabe as Princess Vivi. Smoker, the Baroque Works crime syndicate, Wapol, and the Elbaf warriors Dorry and Brogy all turn up in the footage as well.
Sakamoto Days Goes Back to School
Sakamoto Days Season 2 starts in January 2027, streaming first on Netflix, with episode 1 launching simultaneously worldwide. The series adapts Yuto Suzuki's Weekly Shonen Jump action manga about Taro Sakamoto (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita), a legendary hitman who retired after falling in love. He now runs a neighborhood shop, considerably heavier and with a ¥1 billion bounty on his head. Nobunaga Shimazaki voices his partner Shin Asakura.
Season 2 sends Sakamoto undercover at JCC, a school that trains professional killers, to gather intel on X, alias Slur, the mastermind behind a string of assassin killings. A new character promotional video shows the season's additions in action: JCC student Amane (周), voiced by Kikunosuke Toya; veteran teacher Etsuko Satoda, voiced by Misa Watanabe, who pulls double duty on this slate as Vivi in Lego One Piece; and Yotsumura, a former No. 2 of the assassins' association, voiced by Masahide Fuji.
Looking Ahead
Each of these titles streams worldwide on Netflix, which delivers anime to more than 190 countries and regions with dubs and subtitles in up to 34 languages. The calendar now reads: Lego One Piece on September 29, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on October 20, Fool Night on November 26, Sakamoto Days Season 2 in January 2027, and The One Piece in February 2027. The panel also showed trailers for season 2 of the Emmy-winning Blue Eye Samurai and for Bass X Machina, neither of which carried a premiere date in the announcement highlights.
