Ichigo vs. Yhwach Finally Takes Center Stage

The main PV wastes no time. It opens with Ichigo Kurosaki and Yhwach locked in direct combat — the collision point that the entire Thousand-Year Blood War arc has been building toward. From there, the trailer cycles through battle sequences featuring Urahara Kisuke, Shihōin Yoruichi, the Gotei 13, and Ishida Uryū, promising an all-out spectacle for the series' final stretch.

PIERROT FILMS, Studio Pierrot's high-fidelity animation label, continues to handle the adaptation. Hikaru Murata returns as series director under chief series director Tomohisa Taguchi, with Masashi Kudo on character designs and Shirō Sagisu scoring the action. Based on the Anime Hack report, this is the same production team that's driven the TYBW adaptation since 2022.

What to Know About the Advance Screening

Before the July broadcast, episodes 1-3 of The Calamity will screen on June 21 at six theaters across Japan, including Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo, Midland Square Cinema in Aichi, and T-Joy Umeda in Osaka. Two showings are scheduled: a 2:00 PM screening open to the public and a 4:35 PM screening exclusive to members of Tite Kubo's official fan club, Klub Outside.

Each showing will be followed by a stage greeting featuring five cast members:

  • Masakazu Morita as Ichigo Kurosaki
  • Noriaki Sugiyama as Ishida Uryū
  • Shin'ichirō Miki as Urahara Kisuke
  • Yūichirō Umehara (Goblin Slayer, Weather Report in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean) as Jugram Haschwalth
  • Shunsuke Takeuchi (Einar in Vinland Saga) as Askin Nakk Le Vaar

Attendees receive a set of three original illustration cards as an entry bonus. Fan club members at the exclusive second screening also get a limited-edition sticker drawn by Kubo himself. Tickets are ¥3,500 (approximately $23) and are available through Ticket Pia and the Klub Outside website.

US fans won't have to wait long. Fathom Entertainment and VIZ Media have announced their own limited theatrical run of the same first three episodes from June 25 to 29, with both subtitled and English-dubbed screenings available nationwide. That event will feature an exclusive behind-the-scenes conversation with Kubo, Taguchi, and Murata. US tickets go on sale May 29.

The Final Cour of a 130-Million-Copy Legacy

The Calamity is the fourth and final cour of the Thousand-Year Blood War anime, which launched in October 2022 and has aired in yearly installments — the Separation arc in 2023 and the Conflict arc in 2024. The series adapts the concluding arc of Kubo's BLEACH manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2001 to 2016 with over 130 million copies in circulation.

This final stretch sees Yhwach, the Wandenreich emperor voiced by Takayuki Sugō, transcend his Almighty ability to become an existence beyond omniscience. The survival of the World of the Living, Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo all ride on the outcome.

Separately, a retrospective project titled TV Animation "BLEACH" THE STORIES is running on a special site, looking back at the various TV anime arcs since the series first premiered in 2004 — a two-decade journey that The Calamity will finally bring to a close.

Looking Ahead

BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity premieres on TV Tokyo and affiliated stations in July 2026. International fans can stream the series on Crunchyroll, which has handled all previous cours of the TYBW adaptation with both subtitled and English-dubbed options.

For US viewers who want to catch episodes 1-3 on the big screen, Fathom tickets go on sale May 29 at FathomEntertainment.com — both sub and dub screenings are available. The BLEACH manga is published in English by VIZ Media and is available digitally through the Shonen Jump app.
