Episode 50 of The Apothecary Diaries, 「火鼠の皮衣」 (Hinezumi no Kawagoromo, roughly "the fire rat's fur robe"), aired at 11 p.m. JST on Friday, October 9, 2026 on Nippon TV's 30-station FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT block. In its roundup of viewer posts, animeanime reports that reaction on social media centered on the third season's first scene between Jinshi and Maomao, and on a boy already seen in the trailer for the franchise's December theatrical film.

Out shopping with Chou-u, Maomao finds a white robe in a shop, and the owner calls it a garment worn by a celestial maiden. He then tells the legend of a beautiful woman with golden hair and pale skin who wove cloth for the villagers who had helped her, and viewers compared the story to the grateful-crane folktale and the feather-robe legend. After balking at the asking price, Maomao takes the robe outside along with charcoal. The charcoal does not set the cloth alight: the robe, also known as a 「火鼠の皮衣」, is woven from asbestos, and the episode reveals the trick behind the celestial maiden's disappearance. Posts about the health risk followed, including jokes that the robe is itself a poison.
Maomao then summons Jinshi and Gaoshun to the Verdigris House, where she discusses an illustrated guide sold by a lookout and the damage from the locust plague. When the Bi clan, whose help was sought to cover the failed harvest, appears on screen, viewers recognized Mūchin, the boy from the film trailer, and wrote that this is where the series connects to the movie. 劇場版 薬屋のひとりごと 亡妃の秘宝 (Gekijōban Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bōhi no Hihō) opens on December 11, 2026, according to an Eiga.com listing.
Jinshi turns up looking badly run down, so Maomao has a bed prepared, brings in a courtesan to massage him and adds tonics, then lines up courtesans and announces that she has gathered maidens. When the women are offered to Gaoshun in Jinshi's place, the episode reveals that his fastidious daughter tells him he is dirty and should get in the bath last, a scene animeanime reports drew a mix of laughter and sympathy. Maomao reluctantly sings Jinshi a lullaby as he falls asleep, and some viewers identified it as the lullaby heard when Maomao's mother was bought out of the pleasure district.
The episode ends in an alley, where a suspicious immortal woman hands food to an old man and smiles as he devours it. Episode 51, 「麺麭がなければ」, is scheduled to air on October 16, 2026.
