Mirai Konishi is the editor-in-chief of Wasabi POP and the person accountable for what this site publishes. A Japanese-born journalist and filmmaker, he has worked in the entertainment industry for over 25 years. He earned a BA in English and American literature at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, then moved to Los Angeles in 1995 to study film production at the School of Cinematic Arts, University of Southern California, where he took an MFA in filmmaking. He began reporting from Los Angeles in 1996, became the Los Angeles correspondent for CUT magazine in 1999, and has interviewed filmmakers including Steven Soderbergh, David Fincher, David Lynch, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, and Christopher Nolan. He writes a long-running Hollywood column for EIGA.COM, Japan's largest movie news site, and the column "Hollywood Now, Japan's Future" for Video Research's VR Digest plus. He joined the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 2011; he votes for the Golden Globe Awards. His documentary feature "Kampai! For the Love of Sake" premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival in 2015. At Wasabi POP he sets editorial policy, defines the sourcing and verification rules every article is checked against, and handles corrections.
