A Cross-Genre Director Takes the Helm

Fukuoka-based TriF Studio, the team behind the Kickstarter-born action anime Mecha-Ude, is producing the adaptation with backing from Pony Canyon. Directing is Takanori Tsujimoto, a filmmaker whose credits span live-action tokusatsu (the Ultraman TV franchise) and animation (the Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- anime film). That cross-genre background suits a story built on flashy magical combat.

Yūki Hayashi (My Hero Academia, Haikyu!!) is scoring the series. Character designs come from Kengo Saitō of Yostar Pictures, the animator who served as chief animation director on SSSS.GRIDMAN. Saitō will be adapting the original illustrations by popular artist Lam into animation-ready designs.

Original author Rainy Kamitsuki is also co-writing the series composition alongside screenwriter Jun Tsugita, according to Animate Times. The announcement notes that the anime aims to preserve the novels' expansive world while adding cinematic staging unique to the medium.

What Is Witch and Hound?

Published under Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko light novel imprint, Witch and Hound (魔女と猟犬) is a dark fantasy series spanning six volumes. The story follows Rollo Duvel, a young assassin known as the "Black Dog," who is recruited by Lord Bud Grace of the kingdom of Campusfellow. His mission: track down seven witches scattered across the continent to defend the small nation against Amelia, a kingdom that monopolizes magicians and uses supernatural power to expand its territory. The first target is the Mirror Witch, whose destructive power has already devastated a neighboring realm.

The series tagline: "The trump card was a 'witch.'"

A manga adaptation illustrated by Minori Tsukahara ran on Square Enix's Manga Up! service from May 2023 to July 2025, collected in four volumes.

The Teaser PV

The newly released teaser PV showcases the anime's first action footage, pitting the Mirror Witch Theresarisa against protagonist Rollo in a sparking, acrobatic fight sequence drawn from the first novel's cover scene. A teaser visual, a dedicated website at witch-and-hound-anime.com, and official social media accounts have also launched.

Looking Ahead

No broadcast date has been announced. The teaser PV is hosted on Pony Canyon's YouTube channel.

For English-speaking fans, the manga adaptation is licensed by Yen Press with the first English volume scheduled for November 2026. The original light novels are also available in English through Shogakukan's Novelous digital platform. No international streaming partner has been confirmed for the anime yet.
