Gakuto Kajiwara Goes From Anti-Magic to Oni General

Kajiwara (Asta in Black Clover, Shinra Kusakabe in Fire Force) voices Hayate Todoroki, the general of the Oni Brigade. The announcement describes Todoroki as a "Child of the Kishin" just like protagonist Shiki Ichinose, with overwhelming charisma to match the rank.

Kajiwara also made a surprise appearance on the July 2 special program alongside series regulars Kazuki Ura (Shiki Ichinose), Kōtarō Nishiyama (Jin Kougasaki), and Natsuki Hanae. According to a report from Japanese entertainment site Dengeki Online, recording for the new arc is already underway, and the talk covered behind-the-scenes stories from the booth, including what Kajiwara found hardest about playing Todoroki.

Meet the Oni Brigade

The new key visual puts all eight members front and center, eyes locked on the viewer, with Todoroki in the middle. The Oni Brigade is an oni group that operates outside the Oni Agency, and its creed is the complete eradication of the Momotaro side. The announcement stops short of saying how the brigade crosses paths with Shiki and his Rasetsu Academy classmates; that collision is what the new season is building toward.

Here is the full lineup, with the character notes from the reveal:

  • Uri Torikai (Kentarō Kumagai): the serious one, stuck supporting his somewhat scatterbrained general while the brigade's eccentrics drag him around. Recognizable by the two lines under his left eye.
  • Shinichi Fuwa (Ryūho Nagaoka): a Kansai-dialect member with very firm opinions about his type, boasting that "love begins at triple-digit weight."
  • Misaki Kakoi (Tomohiro Ōno): spends most of his time at Fuwa's side and openly professes a taste for married older women.
  • Gou Todomeki (Shintarō Ōhata): blind, but able to read a person's personality in detail just by touching their face.
  • Kyoutarou Otohara (Yuki Sakakihara): breezy on the surface, but the brigade's cool-headed tactician.
  • Akari Hirunuma (Wataru Hatano): the gentle eldest member, who speaks politely to everyone.
  • Miyo Umitsuki (Hitomi Ueda): the brigade's only woman, a man-hater so extreme she curses out anyone who so much as looks at her.

More is coming from this group soon: the official announcement says comment videos from the Oni Brigade cast and oni-themed videos will roll out on the show's X, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram accounts.

Where the Story Stands

Tougen Anki adapts Yura Urushibara's dark action manga from Akita Shoten's Weekly Shonen Champion magazine and pits descendants of oni against descendants of the folk-tale hero Momotaro. The first season, produced at Studio Hibari under director Ato Nonaka with music by KOHTA YAMAMOTO, covered the Kyoto and Nerima arcs and is currently streaming. The sequel's subtitle points the story toward Nikko and Kegon Falls, the landmark waterfall north of Tokyo.

Looking Ahead

Tougen Anki: Nikko Kegon Falls Arc premieres in October 2026 in the Friday Anime Night block on Nippon TV and its affiliates. The first season streams internationally on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Prime Video; no word yet on streaming plans for the new arc.

Readers who want to get ahead of the anime can pick up the manga in English from Yen Press, published as Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood.
