What Kobayashi and Minase Wrote
The visual arrived with written comments from its two leads. Yūsuke Kobayashi (Senku Ishigami in Dr. Stone, Arthur Boyle in Fire Force) has voiced Natsuki Subaru since 2016. He thanked viewers for staying with the season and framed the Pleiades Watchtower as the place Subaru went to take back what he had lost. Some of it came back. Some of it was lost instead. He wrote that this is not an ending anyone can celebrate without reservation, then closed on the two lines the visual echoes: “Welcome back. I missed you.” He added that he wants to talk through those feelings properly on radio and at events.
Inori Minase (Hestia in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?), who voices Rem, opened with “We finally got to meet.” She counted herself among the people who had been waiting, and said she was overwhelmed to find Rem there at the end of a future fought for again and again, without ever giving up hope. Talk about the future should happen with a smile, she wrote, but she asked for a little room to sit in the afterglow first. She signed off saying she believes they will meet again.
Japanese anime news site Anime Anime published both comments in full, along with the visual itself, which shows Rem looking at Subaru with wide eyes under the tagline “Rem, I missed you.” The source stops there. It does not describe what happens in the finale.
Return by Death, Volume 46, and a 19-Episode Season
Re:Zero started as a web serial that Tappei Nagatsuki posted to Shosetsuka ni Naro, Japan's largest user-submission novel site, in April 2012. KADOKAWA's MF Bunko J light novel imprint began publishing it in print in January 2014, with character designs by Shinichiro Otsuka. The premise has not changed: Subaru, an ordinary teenager yanked into a fantasy world, dies and wakes up at an earlier point in time, a power the series calls Return by Death. Worldwide circulation has passed 16 million copies including digital editions, and the Japanese novel line is now up to volume 46.
Season 4 ran in two halves. The 11-episode Loss Arc aired from April to June 2026 and is streaming in full. The eight-episode Recapture Arc began on August 12, 2026, with ABEMA and the d Anime Store, two Japanese streaming services, carrying episodes ahead of the TV broadcast. That put the finale on September 30, the same day the epilogue visual went up.
Masahiro Shinohara directed at WHITE FOX, with Nagatsuki supervising the scripts himself and Masahiro Yokotani handling series composition. Haruka Sagawa took character design and chief animation direction, Kenichiro Suehiro scored, and Jin Aketagawa directed the sound. Konomi Suzuki and Ashnikko performed the opening theme “Recollect,” with MYTH & ROID and TK of Ling tosite sigure on the ending theme “Ender Ember.”
The season's leads are Kobayashi as Subaru, Minase as Rem, Rie Takahashi as Emilia, Rie Murakawa as Ram, and Satomi Arai as Beatrice. Rounding out the credited cast: Takuya Eguchi as Julius Juukulius, Kana Ueda as Anastasia Hoshin, Eri Suzuki as Meili Portroute, Fairouz Ai as Shaula, Tomokazu Sugita as Reid Astrea, Kengo Kawanishi as Ley Batenkaitos and Roy Alphard, and Konomi Kohara as Louis Arneb.
Looking Ahead
Crunchyroll streams Season 4 worldwide under the official arc titles The Loss Arc and The Recapture Arc. The English dub slipped behind the subtitled release during the second half by about two weeks, which puts the dubbed finale around October 14, 2026 for anyone waiting on it. Nagatsuki's light novels are published in English by Yen Press, and the manga adaptations are available there too.
No continuation has been announced. Both actors' comments point to more story without naming a project, and Kobayashi's note names radio and live events as where he plans to say more about how the Watchtower storyline ends.
