FZMZ and HANABIE. Split the Theme Song Duties

Season 2's music lineup pulls from two acts with real momentum outside the anime bubble. FZMZ, the masked avatar band that performed both of Shangri-La Frontier's opening themes, "BROKEN GAMES" and "Danger Danger," takes the new opening with "DREAM OF BUTTERFLY." In a comment published with the announcement, frontman MAQUMA said he wrote the track around the classic "butterfly dream" paradox, the question of whether the real you is the one before or after reincarnation, and called it a perfect fit for the series. He joked that the theme resonates with him personally too, then cut himself off before explaining why.

The ending theme, "Baribari Buddy," goes to HANABIE., the Tokyo metalcore four-piece that calls its sound "Harajuku-core" and has toured alongside Limp Bizkit and Bring Me the Horizon. The band says the song is built to match the scale of Fran and Master's journey, with a chorus written for group singalongs, adding that they hope to "become Baribari Buddy" with listeners. A first snippet plays in the new TV spot.

A Lich, Undead Hordes, and a Floating Island Tease

According to the Dengeki Online report, the first season 2 key visual freezes Fran and Master mid-fight against the Lich, a new enemy voiced by Shō Hayami. The second trailer runs "DREAM OF BUTTERFLY" over that battle and swarms of undead monsters. It also slips in a shot suggesting a connection between Nanashi (名無し, literally "Nameless"), voiced by Shiori Izawa, and the floating island, which the report frames as a hint at where the story goes next.

Shinichirō Miki returns as Master, the reincarnated sword of the title, alongside Ai Kakuma as his partner Fran. Behind the scenes, the season 1 team is back: director Shinji Ishihira, series composition and scripts by Takahiro Nagano, character designs by Atsuko Saitō, and music from Yasuharu Takanashi (Team-MAX), with animation production at studio C2C. Yuu Tanaka's original light novels, illustrated by Llo, run under Micro Magazine's GC Novels imprint in Japan.

ABEMA Gets Every Episode a Week Early

The TV rollout starts Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at midnight on TOKYO MX, with ABC TV the same night and BS Asahi and AT-X following on Friday, October 9. The bigger scheduling story is streaming: ABEMA, the Japanese streaming service, will carry each episode exclusively a full week ahead of broadcast, beginning September 30.

Two warm-up events round out the announcement. Miki and Kakuma will appear on "Anime Info Mori & Mori SP," a special program marking the 12th anniversary of the GC Novels imprint, streaming on ABEMA on August 23 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. JST. The pair will look back on season 1 and preview season 2, and the program stays free for a week after it airs. AT-X will also run a season 1 marathon on October 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a six-hour refresher before the new episodes begin.

Looking Ahead

No international streaming partner for season 2 has been announced yet. Season 1 streamed on HIDIVE, which also carries the Sentai Filmworks English dub, so that is the storefront to watch, though nothing is confirmed. Readers who want to get ahead of the anime can pick up the Reincarnated as a Sword light novels in English from Seven Seas. The next dates on the calendar: the ABEMA special on August 23, the streaming premiere on September 30, and the TV premiere on October 7.
