The Ultimate Reset Button

Eight episodes into Re:ZERO's Pleiades Watchtower arc, the show is pulling a move that mirrors its very first episode. According to the Episode 8 synopsis released by Animate Times, Subaru finds himself in what looks like a classic isekai opening: a boy on his way home from a convenience store, suddenly transported to a fantasy world, eyes wide with wonder.

Except this isn't Episode 1. It's Episode 74.

Subaru appears to have lost every memory from the moment he was originally summoned. He doesn't remember Emilia, Beatrice, Ram, or the trials he's endured across three seasons. Someone tells him he's in the middle of a tower "trial," but without any supernatural abilities — no Return by Death context, no hard-won knowledge — he's simply told to wait. The synopsis ends with Subaru wandering the tower alone, which is about as ominous as it sounds.

The episode title, "Omae wa Dare da," is rendered entirely in katakana rather than standard script, giving it a blunt, confrontational edge. "Who are you" hits different when it's directed at someone who can't answer.

Picking Up From Last Week

Episode 8 follows directly from Episode 7's setup. Last week's installment was titled "Konbini wo Deru to, Soko wa Fushigi no Sekai deshita" (When I Left the Convenience Store, It Was a Wondrous World) — a title that deliberately echoes the series' original premise. Episode 8 now deals with the fallout.

For context, Re:ZERO's fourth season adapts the Pleiades Watchtower portion of Tappei Nagatsuki's light novel series, published by KADOKAWA under the MF Bunko J imprint. The arc follows Subaru and his allies as they seek the Sage Shaula at a remote desert tower, hoping to reverse the damage done by the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony — Rem's endless sleep, Crusch's stolen memories, and Julius's erased name.

The episode is scripted by Nakamura Yoshiko, with storyboards by Itadaki Shinji and direction by Masaki Hinako. Mishima Chie and Noda Yasuyuki serve as chief animation directors. WHITE FOX (Steins;Gate) continues producing the series under director Shinohara Masahiro.

Mini Anime: Eridona Remembers

Alongside the main episode preview, the companion mini anime Re:Zero Break Time 4th season also released its Episode 74, titled "Kararagi Hosode Hanjōki" (roughly, "Kararagi Small-Time Success Story"). The short follows the artificial spirit Eridona and Julius walking through the watchtower corridors in a somber mood. Eridona recalls the day she first met Anastasia — a quieter character beat that Animate Times previewed alongside the main episode screenshots.

Looking Ahead

Episode 8 airs today, May 27, 2026, on AT-X and TOKYO MX in Japan. Crunchyroll streams the episode internationally with a same-day simulcast and English dub, available across North America, Europe, Latin America, Oceania, Africa, the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.

The current Loss Arc runs 11 episodes, meaning three more installments remain before the season's midpoint break. The second half — the eight-episode Recapture Arc — begins August 12, 2026, bringing the fourth season to a total of 19 episodes.

The source light novels are available in English from Yen Press, and the original web novel remains freely accessible on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform in Japanese.
