The Key Visual Sets the Emotional Tone

The newly released key visual for Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club Finale Final Chapter sets the tone for the trilogy's conclusion. The image shows the club's 12 school idols stepping forward through a rainbow stretching at their feet, while Yu Takasaki, the group's devoted supporter, watches their backs from behind.

It's a loaded composition for longtime fans. Yu has always been the audience stand-in, the non-idol who brought the group together, and placing her behind the 12 rather than among them signals where the story is headed.

The visual also debuted new dance costumes for Karin Asaka and Kasumi Nakasu, according to Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie, though the full costume lineup for the final performance hasn't been shown yet.

The Road to Tokyo

The Finale trilogy premiered its first chapter in 2024, followed by Chapter 2 in 2025, each covering a leg of the in-universe School Idol GPX (Grand Prix) competition. Previous rounds took the cast through Okinawa, Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. The Final Chapter brings the Grand Prix to Tokyo for its climax.

The series is animated at Sunrise (Cowboy Bebop, Mobile Suit Gundam), now operating under the Bandai Namco Filmworks umbrella, with director Tomoyuki Kawamura returning after helming both seasons of the TV anime. Jin Tanaka handles the screenplay. Bandai Namco Filmworks and Shochiku ODS share distribution duties.

The full voice cast returns for the finale. Hinaki Yano reprises Yu Takasaki, with Aguri Onishi as Ayumu Uehara, Mayu Sagara as Kasumi Nakasu, and Akari Kito (Nezuko in Demon Slayer) as Kanata Omi. The rest of the 13-member ensemble, including Kaori Maeda as Shizuku, Miyu Kubota as Karin, Natsumi Murakami as Ai, Koko Hayashi as Setsuna, Maria Sashide as Emma Verde, Chiemi Tanaka as Rina, Moeka Koizumi as Shioriko, Shu Uchida as Mia Taylor, and Akina Homoto as Lanzhu Zhong, all return.

TV Rebroadcast Ahead of the Finale

To prime audiences for the final film, the Nijigasaki TV anime is getting a rebroadcast on BS Nittele, a Japanese satellite channel. Season 1 starts airing July 1, 2026, every Wednesday at 11:30 PM, with Season 2 picking up from September 30 in the same time slot. That rebroadcast schedule places Season 2's run right up against the winter theatrical window, giving lapsed fans a natural path back into the series before the Final Chapter hits theaters.

Looking Ahead

The Final Chapter is confirmed for this winter in Japan, though no specific date has been announced. International theatrical distribution and streaming plans haven't been confirmed yet. Previous Love Live franchise films have reached Western theaters through limited event screenings, and earlier Nijigasaki TV seasons are available on Crunchyroll in multiple regions, so an international release of some kind is likely, though nothing is official.

The key visual reveal video is available on the official Love Live! series YouTube channel for fans wanting a closer look at the new costumes and composition.
