Two Networks, Two Studios, One Unprecedented Swap

This isn't your typical anime crossover cameo. Detective Conan airs on Yomiuri TV/NTV and is produced by TMS Entertainment (Lupin III, Dr. Stone). Star Detective Precure! airs on ABC TV/TV Asahi and is produced by Toei Animation (One Piece, Dragon Ball). Different networks, different studios, different production pipelines — and yet starting today, each show's protagonist is stepping into the other's world.

Episode 18 of Star Detective Precure!, titled "Great Detectives Assemble," airs today on ABC TV/TV Asahi with Edogawa Conan joining the PreCure cast. Then on June 6, Cure Answer crosses over into Detective Conan on Yomiuri TV/NTV. Both episodes were recorded at each show's respective home studio, meaning the voice actors had to travel to unfamiliar booths to reprise their characters.

Takayama and Senga on the Collaboration

Minami Takayama, who has voiced Conan since 1996 (and also played Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service), didn't hold back her surprise. "I never imagined a collaboration that crosses TV networks and production companies could actually happen," she said. "This is truly a historic incident."

Takayama also couldn't resist pointing out that this isn't her first brush with the PreCure franchise. "I was a PreCure once too, you know — a dark one, though," she added, referencing her role as Dark PreCure in 2010's HeartCatch PreCure!. On the recording itself, she noted that while the character work felt natural — "Conan is Conan no matter the setting" — working in an unfamiliar studio added some nerves. The session ended on a high note, though, with plenty of chatting during breaks.

Hikari Senga, who leads Star Detective Precure! as Cure Answer, revealed she had been hoping for exactly this crossover since the day she learned her show's title. "When the producer told me about the collaboration, I couldn't help but let out a loud reaction," she said. Learning that she'd also appear in Detective Conan as Cure Answer left her starstruck at the prospect of working alongside veteran colleagues.

For her Conan recording, Senga said she focused on keeping Cure Answer's core personality intact while fitting naturally into Detective Conan's world. She teased that viewers might notice a slightly different side of the character in the Conan crossover episode.

Collaboration Merchandise on the Way

The crossover isn't limited to the screen. Acrylic stands and other goods featuring the collaboration's key visuals will go on sale at PreCure Pretty Store locations starting June 23. Additional merchandise from Ensky, Sun-Star Stationery, and Bandai is also planned, with items rolling out in the weeks following the broadcast.

Looking Ahead

The first crossover episode airs today, May 31, with Conan's appearance in Star Detective Precure! Episode 18. The second half of the swap — Cure Answer's debut in Detective Conan — follows on June 6.

Both series are streaming on Crunchyroll for audiences in North America, Europe, Latin America, Oceania, Africa, and the Middle East. International viewers should be able to catch each crossover episode shortly after its Japanese broadcast.

Detective Conan has been running since 1996 and is currently in its 30th anniversary year. Star Detective Precure! premiered in February 2026 as the 23rd installment of the PreCure franchise. This marks the first time the two franchises have ever crossed over — and given Takayama's reaction, it may well be remembered as a one-of-a-kind event in anime history.
