A character promotional video for the water bandits who attack Maomao and Jinshi in the anime film The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady's Treasure (劇場版 薬屋のひとりごと 亡妃の秘宝) has been released, along with three cast members for the group, Oricon News reported on October 13, 2026. Kensho Ono voices the bandits' leader, Suija.
Suija is searching for treasure that his father, the group's previous leader, hid before dying a year ago, and his crew sets upon Maomao and Jinshi's party in the process. Ryota Takeuchi voices Suija's loyal subordinate, and Jiro Saito voices the previous leader. The video also shows Suija's older sister, who gives off a forbidding presence.
In the film, Maomao and Jinshi travel to Binanshū, a region south of the royal capital, to return the body of Ruochin, a mid-ranking consort who died in the rear palace five years earlier. The bandits note the party's high rank and trail them.
In a comment released with the announcement, Ono described Suija as a very sharp-witted character and said a scene in which he could tell the character's mind was turning left an impression on him. He joked that Suija obviously looks like a villain, and said he hoped audiences would see in theaters what he is really like.
Natsu Hyuuga, who writes the original light novels, wrote an entirely new story for the film, which opens in Japan on December 11, 2026. Crunchyroll has announced that it acquired North American and worldwide rights excluding Asia but including India, and that it will distribute the film with Sony Pictures Entertainment, with dates to be announced, according to its press release.
